7 Quirky Hairstyles To Light Up This Festive Season

  1. Fishtail braid

    Fishtail braid has caught the imagination of different generations without ever wearing out. It looks intricate and can be quite a crowd-puller in parties. But it is one of the easiest hairstyles to pull off when you don’t have too much time to prep

    What You Will Need:

    Styling tips:

    Hair serum, comb, hair elastics

    1. Wash your hair thoroughly and brow dry it; add serum and comb through
    2. Tie a tight low ponytail using a hair elastic
    3. Seperate the ponytail into two sections
    4. Take a thin section of hair from the outer side of the right bunch and add it to the inner side of the left bunch
    5. Next, pick up a thin bunch of hair from the outer side of the left bunchand add it to the inner side of the right bunch
    6. Repeat the 2 previous steps alternately until you reach the end of your hair and secure the braid with a hair elastic
    7. Cut and remove the hair elastic at the top of your braid.
  2. Rock the gajra

    Gajras (string of jasmine flowers) are not just meant to be worn for weddings. You can sport it even for fast-approaching festive occasions like Navratri and Diwali. You get artificial gajras too in some stores and online so you can stock them up. The easy way is to wear it with a simple bun.

    What You Will Need:

    Brush, hair serum, blowdryer, hair spray, hair elastic, hair donut, bobby pins, gajra

    Styling tips: 

    1. Wash your hair and blow dry it using a brush to ease out the dampness 
    2. Prep your hair with a good hair serum before you begin
    3. Separate your hair into two sections vertically (ear-to-ear) using hair elastic and insert the donut on to the lower ponytail 
    4. Take the top section and roll it around the donut and insert bobby pins. 
    5. Roll the lower section around the bobby pin until all the strands are secured
    6. Use hairspray over the bun to ensure it stays in place
    7. Now wrap the gajra around the bun and use bobby pins to secure it
  3. Khaleesi waterfall braid

    If french braids are too complicated for you, then you should try your hand at a waterfall braid. It is quick, easy and eye-catching.This style became popular after Khaleesi, a character is Game of Thrones pulled it off on her claim to the Iron Throne.

    What You Will Need:

    Brush, hair serum, blowdryer, hair spray, hair elastic, hair donut, bobby pins, gajra

    Styling tips:

    1. Wash your hair and blow-dry it and divide into two halves
    2. Take a section of hair at the front and separate into three bunches
    3. Take the back bunch and cross it over the center bunch 
    4. Now take the front bunch and cross it over the middle
    5. Cross this back bunch and new section of hair over the middle
    6. Leave the front bunch as is 
    7. Take a section of hair behind the front bunch and cross this new section over the middle
    8. Repeat these steps all the way to the length you want and secure it with a clear elastic or clip
  4. Beehive updo

    This hairstyle has been sported by many celebrities. Bumps create the illusion of height and volume and is quite easy to pull off.

    What You Will Need:

    Fine tooth comb, bobby pins, hair elastic

    Styling tips:

    1. Wash your hair and detangle with a comb
    2. Using the tip of the comb, separate the centre section of your hair to create the bump  
    3. Gather hair only till the crown of your head 
    4. Tease the top section of your hair in small sections from back to front repeatedly till the friction creates some volume
    5. Now smoothen the hair with a comb and secure it with bobby pins 
    6. Before you tie the rest of your hair into a high ponytail, leave some strands at the bottom and secure the ponytail  
    7. Wrap the loose piece of hair around the hair elastic and secure it in place by tucking it into the hair tie
  5. The Messy Bun

    If your hair is not washed and you do not have time to prep, then this hairstyle will work wonders for you.

    What You Will Need:

    Hair curler, comb, hair elastic

    Styling tips: 

    1. Gather your hair into a loose ponytail
    2. Separate it into 2-3 sections and comb it up and down to create friction in each section 
    3. After teasing your hair, separate each of your sections into 2 sections and curl it 
    4. Twist the curled hair into a bun and secure it with bobby pins
  6. Boho half-bun

    If you are a hippie at heart, then this style is for you. Chic, easy to pull off and attention-grabbing, it is perfect for the festive season to bring out the boho-goddess in you.

    What you will need:

    Brush, volume spray, setting spray and hair elastics

    Styling tips: 

    1. Wash and dry your hair 
    2. Apply a heat protectant
    3. Take 2 inch sections of hair at a time and curl your hair
    4. Run a comb through your hair to open up the curls
    5. From around your ears, take half of your hair and twist it right till the end
    6. Roll up this twisted hair into a bun and secure it to the top of your head by pushing bobby pins into the bun
